It is frustrating when you see that WiFi/Ethernet doesn’t work on PS4 Linux, right? Every now and then, I do see people posting about these issues. You do need internet, preferably a fast one to be able to use Linux on any system satisfactorily. This is especially because, even installing a simple software on Linux requires a few other dependencies that are automatically installed by the packaging application (apt, pacman, etc.). This though is not possible without internet.
So, what do you do when you don’t have WiFi or Ethernet while running Linux on your PS4? It’s simple actually. Just get a WiFi or Ethernet Adaptor which connects via USB. But, before buying one, you have to be cautious about a few things:-
- Get a USB Adaptor depending on your connection speed. A USB 2.0 Network Adaptor will generally support internet speeds upto 100Mbps, while a USB 3.0 adaptor will support upto 1000Mbps. So, if you have a connection that offers more than 100Mbps, you would be better off with a USB 3.0 adaptor.
- Not all Adaptors have inbuilt Linux drivers. This is another issue you should be careful about. Not all network adaptors will work out of the box on Linux. Some might require kernel rebuilding with the appropriate drive, while others will require more work. In most cases, it should work without any issues. If you plan to game on PS4 Linux, then, I am sure you would also love to record and maybe stream. Infact, with distros like Nobara, you might be able to record and stream gameplays.
