Hello everybody, Because the tutorials from this website are dated and very complicated, I spent my afternoon making a modern tutorial on how to install Linux on the PS4. DionKill wouldn't it be easier to install Linux on an internal drive, run gparted, connect the external drive, first partition fat32 50MB, second format to ext4, label psxitarch, have a distro on the desktop with the name "psxitarch" and one command sudo tar -xvzpf /home/ps4/Desktop/psxitarch.tar.gz -C /run/media/ps4/psxitarch but the guide is ok Qba-yakuza

Elokuba That method can work but not on every PS4 revision (Baikal system can't use the internal HDD), and it's super slow either way, but it certainly is another option, thanks for mentioning. Also I'm still gonna be updating this myself, there's a lot of stuff that's missing, like possible other distros I've definitely missed (I modified yours to fix language and a couple of things but haven't uploaded it yet), or how to update mesa drivers... A lot of stuff yeah.

Elokuba Hey that's awesome! I haven't thought of enabling ZRAM. Because Android already makes use of it, and honestly phones nowadays are just as fast as the PS4, it could definitely help with the fact that we have limited memory to work with. Also, I'm also going to try out this newer kernel. Thanks a lot for this! Just a little question, is there a repo for building the kernels or newer versions of Mesa? I think I found some but I'm not too sure.

Elokuba Thanks a lot man. I managed to find saya's account on some french forums I can't read and found quite a bunch of kernels hosted there. Do you know if those are the up-to-date ones? Or if there are plans for more newer kernels like crashniels' 6.15? Could I try to compile these myself?

Elokuba Not really, the Arch Linux website says that ZRAM enables it's own swap called ZSWAP and that needs to be disabled, and normal Swap can stay on, at least that's what I've understood.

DionKill Zswap is alternative for Zram, but its primarily for use in servers and desktop only. because of its nature, stored cache.

That is why i did not recommend it.
I assume all ps4 owners are a multimedia, gamer Users.

While Zram act has a Ram buffer.

But if i may suggest you can at least give the option to your guide Zram and Zswap

Elokuba Nice, I see that it works better maybe? The thing is that to me it shows up as 13.77 GB of swap, where 8GB are the ones I assigned from the drive, and 6.77 GB is the size of the RAM. Does ZRAM count as normal RAM, or does it count as swap?

DionKill yes mostly zswap is disabled by default.

Here to give more specific breakdown data type this:

( swapon --show ) for static view.
( watch swapon --show ) for active view.

To exit in active view mode Ctrl + C or just close the terminal.

Hi everyone, I posted on discord, but everything is lost there. Very good work on your PS4Linux tutorial page. I'll post the sources for bzlmage 6.12.11 tonight. I'm not the author, all credits go to Crashniels, I just modded it. Besides, many people forget to mention his name, and yet all the basic sources come from him. @Elokuba On my kernel update 6.12.11, I used some CashyOS patches (only the amdgpu and acpi patches) you will find everything here:

It's easier than making a distribution, I swear. Child's play. Patching a Crashniels kernel is as easy as opening a beer. I'll give you a short tutorial tonight.
