Right now on 9.00 it's possible to load Linux without other external devices. Steps to reproduce: Use PSFree without the goldhen payload. Then run Linux sleirsgoevy's 900-host. This should be combined some time in the future.
Haven't tried this yet, but, yes, PSFree is much better than the USB method.
